เพื่อแผ่นดินเกิด

แต่ตกใจนิด ๆ กับวันแรกที่เธอถามผมว่า คุณเอาอะไรมาเป็นหลักฐานการเรียกชื่อว่า "ทวารวดี" เพราะเธอไม่รู้อะไรมากไปกว่าในพงศาวดารต่าง ๆ ของจีนที่ว่าด้ย "โถโหลโปตี" และอื่น ๆ ในแนวนั้นเท่านั้น

จนผมเล่าถึงการพบเหรียญมีจารึก "ศรีทวารวดี ศรวปุณย" หลายเหรียญ รวมทั้งนำไปดูถึงที่ ที่คอกช้างดิน โดยมีนกเป็นคนนำในฐานะคนขุดค้นทางโบราณคดีด้วยตนเอง แล้วยังได้เห็นของจริงในพิพิธภัณฑ์ที่อู่ทอง เธอก็ถึงบางอ้อ ในขณะที่ตะเกียงโรมันสำริดซึ่งในจีนมีการสาธยายเป็นกวีไว้เยอะ แต่ไม่เคยพบของจริงนั้น เธอก็ได้เห็นประจักษ์ตาเป็นหนแรกในคราวนี้

Dear Mr. Bunchar,

Many thanks for inviting me to join this wonderful workshop,field trip...

The workshop is really a beginning for me to understand the richness of Thai ancient culture as well as the whole peninsula. I will encourage my students in Sun Yat-Sen University to pay attention to the Chinese documents, archaeological finds concerning to Dvaravati culture. Hopefully we can make some contribution to the research of this interesting culture.

I am reading the book Ancient History of UThong City of Gold at this moment. I even find it in the airport bookstore when I left Bangkok.I am quite touched by the words in the BIA prelude for this book, "The BIA decided to take this project because of the lack of an organization to formally conduct the study in the way it should be". Buddhist teaching always emphasizes the work being done in a dedicated and unconditional way. I am happy to find it in the works of BIA.
